BB DAY CAMP STAFF
BB Day Camp staff work together to provide engaging, fun, and meaningful summer experiences for campers of different backgrounds and a wide age range. Our campers are rising kindergarteners through middle schoolers. Due to the urban nature of our camps, we get to explore our environment through field trips and welcoming special guests. Our typical work week is Monday through Friday, 8 am – 5 pm. Join the BB Day Camp team for a fantastic summer experience!
Head Counselors will work with a team of staff to supervise and ensure the wellbeing of a group of campers in a certain age group. They will connect, play, and engage with campers, support campers through conflicts and behaviors, and create and lead activities. Head Counselors will support Specialists in leading activities. They will also support Counselors and Counselors in Training in their growth. Head Counselors must be flexible, positive, inclusive, and have good communication and teamwork skills. Must have experience working with children (preferably in a camp setting). High School graduate or older.
Counselors

Assistant Director
The Assistant Director will aid the Director in creating a vibrant and inclusive Jewish camp experience. They will ensure that the administrative work is running smoothly by communicating with families and community partners, monitoring and filing paperwork, keeping track of camper and staff attendance, addressing and logging minor injuries, etc. The Assistant Director will also support the Program Manager, Unit Heads, CIT Coordinator and all other staff in day-to-day functions as well as big picture ideas. This person must be responsible, organized, and have good communication and time management skills. Must have leadership experience and experience working with children (preferably in a camp setting). Must have a bachelor’s degree in a related field.
Program Manager
The Program Manager’s main responsibilities are updating the schedules, communicating schedules to staff, purchasing and keeping track of supplies, setting up program areas, and cleaning program areas. The Program Manager will supervise Specialists and support counselors in creating and leading their own activities. They will also explain programs and how they need to be run. The Program Manager will assign staff to morning and aftercare shifts. This person needs to be responsible, organized, and have good communication and time management skills. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Unit Heads
Unit Heads work on a team to support a group of Counselors and campers. They do this by supervising and ensuring the wellbeing of a group of Counselors, supporting Counselors in navigating camper conflicts and behaviors and aiding Head Counselors and Counselors in their growth. Unit Heads have good people and teamwork skills, they are flexible, positive, open-minded, and good communicators. Must have leadership experience and experience working with children (preferably in a camp setting). Must have a bachelor’s degree in a related field.
CIT Coordinator
The CIT Coordinator will work with the Programming Manager to create CIT daily schedule that includes programs that focus on developing skills in child-care and programming, developing professional skills, and recreation/group team building. The CIT Coordinator coordinates, plans and implements all CIT programming. They work with other leadership staff to find ways to integrate the CITs into all-camp or group programming. The CIT Coordinator is flexible, positive, open-minded, a good communicator, and able to work on a team. Must have leadership experience and experience working with children (preferably in a camp setting). Must have a bachelor’s degree in a related field.
Trip Leader
The Trip Leader is responsible for the safety and wellbeing of staff and campers on field trips. They will communicate with bus drivers, with the Camp Director about trip status and updates, and communicate expectations with staff and campers. This person is responsible, organized, and has good communication and time management skills. Must have leadership experience (preferably in a camp setting). Must be 21+.
Photographer
The Camp Photographer will take quality photos of campers at camp, on field trips, and during all camp programs. They will manage shared photo albums with families and post photos throughout the week. Must have experience with photography.
Song Leader
The Song Leader will engage the whole camp for 15 minutes each morning/afternoon in a variety of types of songs. They will create camp magic by bringing everyone together in all-camp songs. This person must have experience in song leading (preferably some knowledge of Jewish songs).
Lifeguard(s)
Lifeguards will join BB Camp in attending the Tuesday all-camp field trips to Klineline Pond. Lifeguards will guard for BB Campers in the lake. This person must have a valid lifeguarding certificate and experience lifeguarding. 18+.
Specialists
Specialists create and lead activities in their specific field. They will engage a whole group of campers in their activity. Specialists must have good communication, teamwork, and teaching skills. They must have experience teaching or working in their field of expertise and experience working with children. High School graduates and older.
Site Director
Under moderate supervision, provides an effective day camp program by giving direction and guidance to day camp staff and CITs. Implements and directs programs in compliance with BB Camp, ACA, state, local and federal laws, policies and procedures. Provides leadership and is responsible for the welfare and safety of the campers within the assigned camp programs. Responsible for unit program and activities as developed by the campers and unit staff.
Program Coordinator
Under direct supervision, develops and delivers camp activities that are safe, fun, and appropriate to the campers’ age and abilities. Assists the day camp site director in providing safe day camp programs by giving direction and guidance to day camp staff and volunteers. Assist in implementing and directing programs in compliance with BB Camp. Provides leadership and is responsible for the welfare and safety of campers within the assigned camp programs. Responsible for providing support and guidance to unit programs and activities as developed by the campers and unit staff.
Head Counselor

Counselor in Training (CIT) Program at BB Day Camps across Oregon! (Portland, Bend, Corvallis, Eugene, Lincoln City, and Salem)
For curent 8th and 9th graders
This is the perfect summer opportunity for any teen looking for a fun way to get some work experience or fill volunteer hours this summer!
CITs will be able to work with children of different ages and backgrounds and learn from staff members with other skills and specialties. Along with assisting counselors in day-to-day activities, camper supervision, and field trips, CITs will have their own special programming. This program will include daily activities for the CITs to form meaningful relationships with other CITs and build upon their leadership, communication, and teamwork skills. All staff are required to be certified in First Aid and CPR. Specialists may require other certifications.
Evaluation of all staff, new and returning, will include, but are not limited to: talent, skill, participation, maturity, work ethic, dedication, stamina, and attitude. Staff members must be positive and respectful. It is not how much you know that matters, but how much you care and are willing to learn.
Although it is highly preferred that you attend the full camp it does not necessarily preclude you from being on staff. Those types of instances will be handled on a case-by-case basis. Please discuss any time conflicts during your interview.
Each staff member will receive one 30-minute break every day.
Summer salaries are broken into four parts, 20% is received on June 30th, July 15th and July 31st, and then 40% is received on August 15th.
In general, visitors are not permitted while Camp is in session. On occasion, staff may have visitors at Camp with the advance permission of the Camp Director. Such visitors must be greeted by the Camp Director in the administrative area of the Camp.
The following behaviors at BB Camp are taken very seriously and may result in dismissal:
- Use or sale of illegal drugs, misuse of prescription drugs (including medical marijuana), possession of marijuana, and possession of any alcoholic beverages in camp or during camp-sponsored activities.
- Physical or verbal abuse of campers or other staff members.
- Stealing or shoplifting from the camp community or in public.
