Dear BB Camp Community,
As our State began to shut down last spring, I had the opportunity to be actively engaged with the Governor’s Office and the Oregon Health Authority (OHA) to prepare and submit the COVID-mitigating guidance necessary to open Oregon’s summer camps. Although the Governor chose not to allow for overnight camps to operate in 2020, the relationships made translated to the convergence of a coalition of Oregon’s camps.
This past winter, the Alliance of Oregon Camps was formed, which I am privileged to serve as the Chair. The Alliance is an organized group of American Camp Association (ACA), Christian Camp and Conference Association (CCCA), and all licensed Oregon overnight camps. Our primary priorities are to secure State funds to support camps’ operations and advocate for a regulatory framework (guidance) that allows overnight camps the ability to open and operate as fully as possible, to provide youth (and adult) overnight camp programs and seasonal rental opportunities.
Since the Alliance’s formation, we have procured $11.5 million to go towards Oregon’s camps, including BB Camp. The talented Steering Committee has worked diligently to draft and propose Statewide Reopening Guidance for Overnight Camps, which was submitted last week. After many meetings and a heavy lift, I’m delighted to share with you that late yesterday, we heard from the Governor’s Office that Oregon’s Overnight Camps will be allowed to open and operate in 2021! Once OHA shares their draft Guidance, the Alliance will work with Oregon’s camps to provide focused, strategic, and prioritized feedback to OHA and the Governor’s Office.
Although we do not know all of the State protocols quite yet, BB Camp is thrilled to welcome back our BB Camp community this summer! If you or your friends have not done so yet, I would strongly encourage families to REGISTER TODAY, as capacity may be limited. Take advantage of our Last Discount of the Year by March 31st.
We are so looking forward to serving our BB Day Camps and Overnight Camp campers for an incredibly meaningful and fun summer, filled with much ruach (spirit)!
Please reach out if you have any questions. I am happy to help! Chag Pesach Sameach! Stay healthy, stay safe, stay strong. Zay Gezund (Be Healthy)!
Warmly,
Michelle Koplan
