Camp Programs by Grade

Pre-K – Kindergarten

Our kindergarten program is specially created to welcome our youngest campers to camp by creating a safe, consistent, and supportive environment. Campers build strong connections with their head counselor, who is knowledgeable in transitioning little ones from preschool to elementary school. In addition to the experienced head counselor, each kinder group has an experienced co-counselor (a specially trained staff person with specific skills for this age group), and a counselor-in-training (a handpicked teen with training and lots of enthusiasm) that help build friendships, foster relationships, and make a closely bonded community every week. Kindergartners are everyone’s little brother or sister at BB Day Camp and are taken care of by every member of the camp staff. Our goal is to provide kindergartners fun and engaging activities that bolster their self-confidence and build important social skills that will benefit them in school and at home.

Kindergartners stay at camp, but they don’t miss out on anything! We bring the field trips to them with special guests and programs such as a circus workshop, reptile show, musical guests, and more! Other activities available for kindergarten may include cooking, sports, music, wacky science, martial arts, gaga, arts and crafts, gardening and nature, and dance.

Grades 1-2

Every day is full of exciting activities such as science, cooking, gaga, volleyball, soccer, arts and crafts, dance, music, drama games, nature and gardening, water play, costume contests, and new activities each week!

Grades 1-2 go on one awesome field trip every week, for example: the Oregon Zoo, a cooking trip, bowling, OMSI, and more…

Every grade 1-2 group has a Head Counselor (an experienced staff person who supervises the group), Co-Counselor (a specially trained staff person with specific skills for this age group), and a Counselor-In-Training (a handpicked teen with training and lots of enthusiasm) that help create friendships, foster relationships, and make a closely bonded community every week.

Campers going into grade 2 can sign up for the BB Camp overnight field trip twice in the summer, while grade 1 campers can join us for our week 7 Shabbaton! This is optional, but a fantastic opportunity to test out sleepaway camp!

Grades 3-6

Camp for grades 3-6 is non-stop action, all-day, every day of the summer! Campers, along with their counselors, are constantly on the move between exciting activities (e.g. sports, art projects, science, gaga), 2 field trips every week (archery, rock climbing, water park, Oaks Amusement Park) and special events (sleepovers at BB Camp, dress-up days, Independence Day Carnival).

Our staff is trained and excited to create special bonds between our campers, make sure every camper has a friend and place at BB Day Camp, and make every camper’s day feel special.

The oldest campers are partnered with a kindergartner for our Kinder-Buddies program throughout the summer. Our oldest and youngest campers sing, dance, and play together on special occasions allowing the grade 5-6 campers to build leadership skills and our youngest kids to have the extra attention and bonds they need!

Grades 7-8  – offered during week 3 and 8

Our program for grades 7-8 is a uniquely fun Camp experience in our urban setting! Each day these Campers, along with their counselors, head out to explore everything Portland and its surrounding areas has to offer. 7 & 8th grade Campers will embark on daily outings to explore their city through engaging physical activities, visual arts, culinary workshops, and community service all while strengthening leadership, exploring their Jewish identity, and building meaningful and lasting friendships!

We believe that tweens and teens learn and grow most effectively when they have the ability to explore what interests them, this is why we offer choice in their activities to ensure that each Camper is set up for optimal growth and fun! Prior to coming to Camp, these Campers, with their parents, will hand pick their focus for the week. For example, your Camper may choose to go rock climbing, take mountain biking lessons and go on a hike in the Gorge, or maybe they would rather explore mixed-media arts, learn new and exciting cooking techniques from a trained chef, and do some yoga at the park! With our wide variety of options, Campers will be able to create a summer experience that they will remember forever.
