Liz Broberg
BB Day Camp Portland & Youth Engagement Director

Liz was born and raised in Southern California and moved to Portland to pursue her Master’s Degree in Social Work from PSU. Liz’s most recent position was as Camp Director of Camp Wise, along with her work for the past 10 years at the Center for Youth Engagement at Stephen Wise Temple, in Los Angeles, where she worked with kids in kindergarten through high school. Liz’s camp experience is broad, as she also was a counselor for Camp Nai Nai Nai at Capital Camps, an adult camp experience with Moishe House. Liz also volunteered with the Girl Scouts of Greater Los Angeles. She received her Bachelors of Science in Management from California State University, Northridge. She enjoys baking, yoga, and hiking. Liz loves all the fun adventures camp has to offer and can’t wait to experience camp in the Pacific Northwest!

Max Ruzi
Assistant Director: Programs
BB Day Camp Portland

Max grew up in Phoenix, Arizona, where he learned from a young age that Arizona summers were way too hot! Instead, he spent his childhood summers away at Jewish sleepaway camp. Max attended University of Oregon, still went to camp every summer. Working as a counselor he discovered a true passion for Jewish camping and working with kids. These formative camp experiences inspired him to join the Family and Human Services program at University of Oregon. He began work as URJ Camp Newman’s Camper Care Coordinator, working with licensed clinical social workers to make camp an inclusive environment and a place for everyone. After graduating, Max worked as a NFTY Youth Director in the Bay Area. Last summer Max moved to Portland where he found a new camp home at B’nai B’rith Camp.

Max has other interests besides camp! He loves music and spends spare time singing and playing guitar or collecting records, and more recently, rock climbing and slack lining. He is excited to be a part of the B’nai B’rith community and can’t wait to start creating memories at the new Portland BB Day Camp.

Melissa Smith
Assistant Director: Camper Care
BB Day Camp Portland

Originally from New York, Melissa attended SUNY Potsdam, where she studied art education while teaching children’s art classes in the summer. Following her graduation in 2014, she spent two years substitute teaching in Long Island, and then a year teaching English abroad in an Israeli public school. From there, she decided to expand her career beyond teaching art. She returned to New York and enrolled in a program at the Touro Graduate School of Education, earning an MS in Childhood Education and Special Education. Melissa now holds three teaching licenses and has seven years of experience working with children. Her philosophy of teaching centers on problem-solving skills, creativity, and relationship-building, to foster academic and social growth.

Outside of her career, Melissa’s greatest passions are outdoor recreation and travel. She has been rock climbing for seven years and is currently learning to ski and snowboard at Mt. Hood. She can’t wait to adventure with BB Campers around Portland this summer!
